— Loved at last dog rescue
Homecoming
December 13th I went to the airport to pick up the newest addition to my little family. After two months of waiting, Mary, a Akbash shepherd mix, was flying in from Iran. She was 30 pounds underweight, and was blind due to abuse. I spent two weeks getting our home ready. Making sure I had all the right food and medications. I spent hours researching ways to train a blind dog, and how to deal with a animal that has been abused.
Once I got her home, this poor, scared little pup didn’t leave her crate for a hour. Once she finally stepped out she timidly started to explore the house. For the first two days we had to carry her outside, she was so weak she could barely walk.

She slept for three days, only getting up to eat and we had to continue to carry her outside to the washroom. After two weeks she started playing with toys, after three weeks she started walking independently up and down the stairs. After a month she started to gain weight and continued to gain strength. She was able to walk for longer periods and became more interactive.

There were many sleepless nights due to the fact that she also has a seizure disorder we were not told about. Since December we have been working on figuring out her medication. After almost three months we finally have her seizures under control. She is a energetic, happy, playful little puppy who improves everyday. It has been a long road but with lots of patience and love she has transformed into a totally different animal. It was a lot of hard work, we invested a lot of time, lost sleep, and spent money on getting her to this point but it was all worth it. The love you receive from a rescue animal is indescribable. If you have the opportunity and are looking to add a new member to your family, please consider adopting and not shopping. I promise you, the rewards are endless!
